Solutions to win: Vegvisir Core system to enhance situational awareness in Ukraine

Ukrainian armored vehicles will receive the latest Vegvisir Core situational awareness system.

Vegvisir company reported that on Linkedin.

What is the problem?

The main advantage in modern warfare is now considered complete information awareness on the battlefield, understanding of where the enemy is, information about its numbers and combat capabilities, etc.

After all, gathering as much information as possible about the enemy's positions on the front lines while not endangering scouts or using reconnaissance UAVs is very important.

What is the solution?

Therefore, the Estonian-Croatian company developed a new situational awareness system for armored vehicle crews in 2022.

The company Vegvisir said it had concluded its first contract for the system in cooperation with DefSecIntel.

The system will increase the situational awareness of vehicle crews in Ukraine.

"This is the first step in supporting Ukraine, and shortly, we will do even more," the company said.

How does it work?

Vegvisir is a technology that allows users to:

  • watch,
  • orientate,
  • make a decision,
  • act faster on the battlefield and in critical situations.

According to the manufacturer, the system enables the crew of armored vehicles to "see through walls."

The system uses cameras, sensors, and image processing algorithms to provide the vehicle's crew members with a 360-degree MR/VR image with a military-grade display.

Defensphere claims that as a result, the crew inside the armored vehicle can still see their immediate surroundings and enemy positions in real-time at a distance of up to 10 km.

Critical features of Vegvisir:

  • Modular configuration that allows you to use individual solutions to solve 95% of potential user tasks;
  • Four levels of redundant sensors: driver sensor system, close-range sensor system with a bird's-eye view, medium-range sensor system with an entire infrared channel, and long-range commander's sight;
  • Rugged helmet displays with VR interface or screen options;
  • 360-degree suspension of the commander's sight with four viewing points and a range of up to 10 km;
  • Low-light optics for night driving;
  • Multispectral sounding.

Vegvisir is developed according to NATO military standards.

The system is also being integrated with other platforms used on the battlefield, including unmanned ground vehicles. The system already has NATO STANAG compliance accreditation.

For reference:

Defensphere was founded in 2021. It planned to raise a second round of funding in 2022 to expand its engineering and sales team.

In addition to Vegvisir Core, the company has another product — Vegvisir Remote. It is an advanced situational awareness system optimized for remote use with low bandwidth. The main application is manned or unmanned platforms that require remote control.

Rubryka recently wrote about kamikaze FPV drones. Their advantage lies in the cheapness and ease of manufacture, which make it possible to partially compensate for the lack of more expensive types of weapons. In the face of reduced assistance from partners, the issue of FPV drones is largely a matter of survival.

In addition, you can assemble such drones yourself, even if you are a humanitarian. How to do it? Read more in our article: "How to assemble an FPV drone if you are a humanitarian."
