Solutions to win: Zaporizhzhia builds fortifications with defense against FPV drones

Construction of fortifications in Zaporizhzhia is moving forward rapidly. Military contractors are currently constructing advanced personnel shelters capable of withstanding artillery fire and even FPV drones.

During an on-site meeting, Ivan Fedorov, the head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, told journalists about this.

"The UT-1 structure serves as a designated location for storing equipment and providing shelter for the crew of a combat vehicle in case of fire. Due to the current threat of FPV drones, the entrance to the shelter has been designed in a "zigzag" shape to allow for hiding from these drones. We are closely collaborating with the military throughout the construction process, as we received specific tasks from them regarding the location and purpose of the structure. It is our responsibility to construct something crucially needed in today's circumstances," he said.

Specialists and equipment are involved in the construction.

Non-explosive structures, such as tetrahedra or "dragon's teeth," Egoza, and "plutanka," have been installed, while communication routes have been arranged and fire facilities have been set up. Additionally, a complex of shelters is currently being constructed.

"Today, we drove by and saw that large-scale construction is underway along the entire front line. There is a deadline. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief has set specific deadlines. Every day, we report and hold meetings, and we clearly have to be responsible for the deadlines for constructing fortifications. On the Zaporozhzhia front line, the work will be completed on time," Fedorov noted.

According to Maksym, a company representative responsible for technical supervision (full name withheld for security purposes), there are currently no more advanced fortifications.

According to the contractors, during the construction of protective structures, blocks made of concrete of a particular grade and fittings are used, which provides robust protection.

Mine barriers and other things will also be erected along the defense lines.

It is noted that the Zaporizhzhia region allocated 1.3 billion hryvnias for defense this year.

It should be mentioned that on the right bank of the de-occupied part of the Kherson region, defensive fortifications are arranged so that the Russian invaders cannot even approach them.

In turn, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published a series of photos showing the construction of fortifications in the Zaporozhzhia region and Sumy region.

For reference:

In recent months, the Russian army has been active in almost all directions of the front, and in some places, it is trying to storm Ukrainian positions and advance. The Russian Federation is especially fiercely trying to advance further from Avdiivka in the Donetsk region and to regain lost positions in the Bakhmut area.

Given the shortage of artillery ammunition, Ukraine's defenders must have well-equipped fortifications. This is especially important now, as the Ukrainian army has shifted to a primarily defensive strategy across nearly all front sectors.

Last fall, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Defense created a joint working group on constructing fortifications.

This month, the Cabinet of Ministers [Ukraine's government – ed.] allocated 788.8 million hryvnias from the reserve fund of the state budget to ensure the pace of construction of new defense lines. These funds will be used to purchase cars and engineering equipment.

In addition, State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" increased the material supply to Ukraine's armed forces to construct fortifications.

Previously, the Ukrainian military had already shown the process of building defensive structures and barrier lines on the northern borders with the Russian Federation.

It was also reported that in several areas of the front, the Defense Forces of Ukraine began to build defensive positions quickly.
