Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba believes that Ukraine and Poland should think about creating a joint alliance within the framework of the European Union.

He stated this in an interview with Układ Sił.

"I think that what we should talk about, what we should already start thinking about, is the Ukrainian-Polish union within the framework of the European Union. Because we will be two powerful players. We will make Poland stronger, and Poland will make us stronger", said Kuleba.

In his opinion, Ukraine and Poland should already think about how to solve bilateral problems on the way to the European Union in the future.

In particular, that refers to the blocking by Polish farmers of the border with Ukraine and the export of Ukrainian grain.

"The deeper we delve into the accession negotiations, the more such issues will arise from different sides. Poles and Ukrainians must prevent such situations from developing into problems and resolve them quickly and amicably, as we have already failed to prevent their emergence," he said minister.

He also believes that Ukraine and Poland should think about what the countries will do together in the European Union and their joint contribution.

Kuleba noted that after Ukraine joins the EU, all Eastern Europe will be part of one European political project, except Belarus.

"For the first time in history, Europe from Lisbon to Kyiv will live as one. Ukrainians and Poles will be part of this great project and have their roles. This is the kind of strategic discussion and partnership that, in my opinion, we should strive for," he said.

For reference:

On December 14, the leaders of the countries of the European Union decided to start the process of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU.

At the same time, as a result of the discussion, the heads of state and government were unable to reach a consensus and adopt amendments to the multi-year EU budget for 2024-2027, which included, in particular, the creation of a Ukrainian fund in the amount of 50 billion euros for budget support of Ukraine in wartime and for the creation conditions for its post-war recovery. The European leaders postponed the consideration of this issue until the beginning of next year.

As Rubryka wrote, on November 8, the European Commission officially recommended that the EU states start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

At the same time, the EC presented a report on Ukraine's progress in 2023 with further recommendations. Among them is the need to implement all the recommendations of the Venice Commission regarding national minorities, namely to make some changes to the legislation on the state language, mass media, and education.

Recently, the Office of the President noted that Ukraine had fulfilled more than 90% of the recommendations of the European Commission.
