The Army of Drones, a Ukrainian program aimed at increasing the number of UAVs on the front line, purchased 1700 drones for the Ukrainian army.

The program is funded by Ukraine-initiated UNITED-24 platform, says digital minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

What is the problem?

Ukrainian troops have launched a major counter-offensive operation in the Zaporizhzhia region using a large number of vehicles.

Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said that Russians are massing troops in all directions and are doing their best to stop Ukrainian advance.

However, the military cannot work without reconnaissance and attack UAVs, because they serve as the "eyes" and best tool for effective operations without causing casualties. Despite the quantity of drones sent to the frontline, they are always not enough.

What is the solution?

We support the counter-offensive by sending 1700 drones to the frontline, the minister said.

The Ukrainian industry is not only increasing the quantity but also the quality of self-made drones, which the Ukrainian government procures and hands over to the military.

How does it work?

The artificial intelligence of these "birds" helps Ukrainian troops effectively detect and destroy enemy targets. All drones have been purchased within the framework of the Army of Drones state program, Fedorov said.

What is the "Army of Drones"?

In early July 2022, Ukraine's digital ministry, the General Staff and the UNITED24 platform were assembling an "Army of Drones" for the Ukrainian military. The project hopes for 200 professional UAVs for aerial reconnaissance.

These drones can fly for up to 24 hours at a distance of up to 160 km and at an altitude of up to 5 km. They are equipped with several cameras with thermal imaging, position sensors and software. They are difficult to spot and even more difficult to shoot down.

The project's founders plan to use drones to cover the entire 2,470 km-wide frontline. Drones will let monitor Russian actions, change military strategies and save as many lives as possible. To help the fundraiser, one can simply transfer money through the UNITED24 platform, or donate their own drone to the army.

In the more than 11 months of the project's existence, 3,864 UAV systems have been purchased with the help of United24.
