The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, arrived in the capital of Ukraine.

She reported this on the X social network.

"Back to the land of the brave. In Kyiv on Europe Day," wrote Metsola.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada [Ukraine's parliament – ed.], Ruslan Stefanchuk, who met the President of the European Parliament at the Kyiv train station, stated that the European Parliament is leading the way in supporting Ukraine. He also noted that it was the first institution within the EU to push for granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for joining the European Union.

"The European Parliament has always had a strong voice when it came to creating an international coalition in support of our struggle for freedom and European values, when it came to supplying weapons to Ukraine and increasing sanctions pressure against Russia. And Ukraine will always appreciate that," he wrote.

For reference:

Roberta Metsola assumed the position of President of the European Parliament in January 2022. Before that, she held the position of vice president, and after the death of David Sassoli – the president's duties.

After the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine in the spring of 202, Metsola visited Kyiv for the first time.

At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with her. The parties raised the issue of coordination of European parliaments in support of Ukraine.
