Over 5,000 Ukrainian women are serving on the front lines – Ministry of Defense

There is no "weaker sex' in Ukraine now. Currently, more than five thousand Ukrainian women are serving on the front lines.

Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Maliar spoke about the situation at the front and countering russian armed aggression on the air of the telethon "Yedyni Novyny."

"Today, we can say for sure that there is no weaker sex in Ukraine. We had two waves (of mobilization) when women showed their desire en masse and went to serve in Ukraine's armed forces – in 2014 and 2022. Now, more than five thousand of our women are only at the frontline. Unfortunately, there are killed and wounded among them," noted Hanna Maliar. "We no longer have legal restrictions on military accounting specialties for women, so they serve as artillery officers and tankers. Today, women have access to any specialty they wish to master. It should also be remembered that many women serve in the Medical Forces of Ukraine's armed forces. They also serve in tough conditions and perform titanic work. Their work is also a matter of pride as the work of our soldiers on the battlefield," stressed the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

In addition, Hanna Maliar reported that samples of women's field uniforms have been developed and tested together with volunteers.

"However, there is a certain debate – whether to emphasize femininity in a uniform or to hide it. The process is still ongoing," noted Hanna Maliar.

For reference:

Earlier, Hanna Maliar stated that, in general, approximately 50000 Ukrainian women serve in Ukraine's armed forces.

According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, 101 female military personnel died at the front, 50 were considered missing, and 100 were injured. Three hundred fifty women were awarded state awards, and two received the title "Heroes of Ukraine" posthumously. However, The Minister of Defense reported this on November 28; no further information on the issue was disclosed.
