Frontline Zaporizhzhia plans to build two underground schools by fall

By September 1 this year, the frontline Zaporizhzhia plans to build two underground schools to provide better education for the city's children in the midst of war, governor Ivan Fedorov reports.

Zaporizhzhia has no blended or full-time education in the regional center because of the  constant shelling, so families leave the city.

"One of the solutions we have found is the construction of underground schools," the governor said.

By the beginning of the new school year, there will be at least two such schools in the city.

"We are currently negotiating with international partners to finance this project. Construction will begin by May. In four months, we plan to build underground places where our children will receive education."

All projects would be coordinated with the military leadership. The depth of the bunkering would depend on the district and the security situation in the city so that children didn't have their classes interrupted during air raids.

Zaporizhzhia will focus on arranging shelters in schools to resume learning in a mixed format.
