United to win: Ukraine and German company join forces to utilize AI in locally-produced drones

Artificial intelligence will be used in Ukrainian-made drones. Today, February 24, Ukraine signed a corresponding memorandum with the German company Helsing.

The head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, reported that.

What is the problem?

Drones are becoming increasingly important in the Russian-Ukrainian war. In addition, there is a global race to develop new technologies that could determine the future of war.

Yermak emphasized that this memorandum aims to strengthen Ukrainian defense technologies and introduce AI in Ukrainian-made UAVs.

"We must be one step ahead in the technological war. And we clearly understand the tasks before us. AI in modern war is a necessity," added the head of the Office of the President.

What is the solution?

Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Strategic Industry, and General Director of Helsing GmbH, Gundbert Scherf, signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of security and defense, which provides for the introduction of artificial intelligence in Ukrainian-made drones.

"This is another result of the conferences on the joint production of weapons, which took place in Ukraine and Washington last year. Now we are actively working with European countries, looking for partners, developing and arming ourselves," the head of the president's office emphasized.

How does it work?

Yermak emphasized:

"There are still several conferences ahead, such as the one in Washington, where the US special representative for the economic recovery of Ukraine, Penny Pritzker, was present, as well as the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, manufacturers, and other notable people. We are preparing many surprises. I will remind you that Volodymyr Zelensky and Joe Biden agreed on joint weapons production".

As the head of the president's office noted, Helsing is a German company that develops software and integrates artificial intelligence into defense technologies. It has partnered with Rheinmetall since 2022 and cooperates with the German Federal Ministry of Defense. The company has been operating in Ukraine since 2022.

As Rubryka previously reported, the Drone Coalition was officially launched as part of the work of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. The Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov noted this. He signed the corresponding letter of intent and expressed his gratitude to the co-leaders of the coalition – Latvia and Great Britain – for this critical initiative.

It should be noted that Great Britain and Latvia will transfer thousands of drones to Ukraine as co-leaders of a large international coalition.

Armor-piercing ammunition for FPV drones was developed in Ukraine. This weapon is effective against light armored vehicles (self-propelled guns, armored personnel carriers, armored personnel carriers), which are protected by anti-accumulative and anti-drone means.

In addition, Ukraine is also building a fleet of naval drones that it deploys to target Russian vessels in the Black Sea.

The UK is working with allies, including the US, to provide Ukraine with thousands of new AI-enabled drones.
