Poland received offers from the Latvian authorities to mediate the negotiations concerning unblocking the Polish-Ukrainian border.

This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, during a telephone conversation with the Polish Minister for European Union Affairs Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia quotes.

As noted, the head of the Latvian foreign diplomatic service called on the representative of Poland to find a way out of the situation on the border with Ukraine due to the protest of Polish carriers. In addition, he expressed his willingness to help.

Kariņš conveyed to Szynkowski vel Sęk information about Latvia's readiness to join negotiations on unblocking the border and assist in finding a solution.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia conveyed Latvia's readiness to participate and provide assistance in finding a solution to the situation," the message emphasized.

In addition, the ministers also discussed the upcoming summit of the European Council, where they will consider the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia confirmed Latvia's strong support for Kyiv. He noted that Ukraine belongs to Europe. Therefore, Latvia advocates the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU already this year.

The ministers also discussed the cooperation between Latvia and Poland within the European Union and the future development of the EU.

What is known about the closure of the Ukrainian-Polish border

As Rubryka reported, Polish carriers started an indefinite protest on November 6.

On November 22, the Ukrainian parliament turned to the new Sejm and Senate of Poland with a proposal to unblock the border for carriers.

The Ukrainian side created a headquarters to help drivers blocked at the border. A coordinator is assigned to each of the three points and is in constant contact.

In Poland, a second Ukrainian driver has died near the Korczowa-Krakowiec checkpoint, where Polish carriers block the border. Kyiv also started collecting data for the evacuation of Ukrainian drivers since it was impossible to agree on it during the negotiations with the local and central authorities of Poland and the EU.

In addition, Polish farmers who joined the blockade of transporters on the border with Ukraine, despite initially planning to block the border crossing until Saturday, want to continue their protest until January 3.

In addition, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, believes that the situation that arose on the border of Poland and Ukraine happened "because of some political steps of our neighbors." And the Poles should be given some time, "everything is warming up."
