Hungarian charity fund donates 100 ventilators to Ukrainian hospitals

Ukrainian hospitals will receive 100 ventilators as humanitarian aid from Hungarian Interchurch Aid.

The organization signed the memorandum on cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Rubryka reports.

What is the problem?

Ventilators are a non-invasive or invasive way to ventilate patients' lungs during severe or critical illness conditions when independent breathing is insufficient and blood oxygen saturation drops.

This type of equipment is extremely important for intensive care units, particularly in treating COVID-19. Many functions of ventilators are especially critical due to the specificity of COVID-19.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Ukrainian society realized that there were extremely few ventilators in their hospitals. Ukraine's Ministry of Health began to look for funding to purchase ventilators for medical facilities and helped to purchase devices from partner countries.

However, many hospitals were destroyed during the war in 2022, and the Russian soldiers looted equipment in the occupied Ukrainian territories to Russia.

What is the solution?

Ukrainian hospitals will receive 100 ventilators as humanitarian aid from the Hungarian charity organization.

How does it work?

Most of the equipment will be distributed to hospitals in the frontline areas, where the medical system faces the greatest challenges. Another part of the ventilators will be delivered to medical facilities in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Kyiv, and Odesa regions.

"Thanks to the support of international partners, the governments of various countries, today our healthcare can survive," Health Minister Viktor Liashko said during the signing of the memorandum. "This is a powerful example of international medical partnership, which we are actively building today. One hundred ventilators that will arrive at our medical facilities will reinforce intensive care units, especially in the front-line areas, where the medical system currently has the most challenges."

Hungarian Interchurch Aid has been providing assistance both on the territory of Ukraine and for Ukrainians abroad for more than 25 years.

Rubryka reported that the public organization "Zemliachky" announced the launch of the "Hear Military Woman" project and opened fundraising for winter gear, uniforms, and personal protection for women on the front lines.

The Lviv Defense Cluster also handed over specialized anti-fragile body armor to medics at front-line hospitals.
