Lviv opens mental health center for children affected by war

Ukraine's western city of  Lviv will open the Center for Mental Health for Children in Saint Nicholas Hospital as part of the Unbroken Kids project.

The Lviv City Council announced this on its website.

What is the problem?

Many of the over 7.5 million children in Ukraine have suffered directly from the consequences of Russian aggression. Displaced from their homes, they've had to bid farewell to their friends and familiar surroundings, adjusting to a new and uncertain reality.

Instead of enjoying carefree childhoods, these children now seek refuge in bomb shelters, hearing explosions daily. The safety and stability they once took for granted have been shattered. Because of what Russia's war brought, young patients need psychological support.

What is the solution?

Children who suffered from Russia's military aggression will be able to receive free professional help from psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and psychologists at the center.

How does it work?

The community of the Lviv IT Cluster will finance all the necessary costs related to repair works, like arranging an office for group classes, sensory therapy, and six medical offices and premises for staff.

The center will provide treatment on an outpatient basis. Children and teenagers will be able to receive comprehensive help, undergo group therapy, and attend individual consultations. All services will be free.

Getting treatment will be possible with a referral from a family doctor. The Leobit company has already joined the creation of the Children's Mental Health Center.
