North Macedonia to transfer MI-24 helicopters to Ukraine

The General Staff of North Macedonia agreed to transfer 12 Mi-24 helicopters to Ukraine.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of North Macedonia, Slavjanka Petrovska, in an interview with the Alsat TV channel.

The head of the ministry noted that her country is ready to hand over 12 Mi-24 helicopters, which it bought in Ukraine in 2001. As a replacement, the country will purchase new western rotorcraft.

"All the equipment that has been handed over so far, besides the fact that it is at the request of the Ukrainians, they need it, and it is equipment that the Ukrainian army skillfully uses. According to our plans, it is equipment that is coming to the end of its useful life," the minister emphasized.

The head of the Ministry of Defense of North Macedonia emphasized that transferring helicopters to Ukraine will not weaken Macedonia's defense capabilities. After all, some of the helicopters were not used for some time.

Petrovska explains that the General Staff decided on the transfer, and now the government must consider the issue.

It should be noted that it recently became known that North Macedonia handed over four Su-25 attack aircraft to Ukraine.

However, they are unsuitable for flights and can be disassembled only for spare parts.

The idea to transfer the planes to Ukraine appeared back in August 2022. Initially, it was assumed that North Macedonia would transfer four Su-25s to Ukraine, which were repurchased in 2001.

For reference:

On March 23, it became known that Slovakia handed over the first four MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
