Ministry of Culture to turn Hostynnyi Dvir in Kyiv into a modern public space

Hostynnyi Dvir in Kyiv will be restored and transformed into a modern public space at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture.

The press service of the Ministry of Culture reported this.

"The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy will turn the destroyed Hostynnyi Dvir in Kyiv into a modern public space. For the first time in Ukraine, the historic site will be restored to meet the needs of modern citizens. It's not only about repairing the building but also about the new life of the entire Kontraktova Square," the statement said.

It is noted that the ministry involves experts from various fields in the concept's development.

In particular, restorers, architects, urban planners, historians, cultural managers, the public, as well as representatives of state and city authorities will gather at the seminar "Hostynnyi Dvir: Focus of attention – vision."

Currently, to prepare for the seminar, specialists of the NGO "Urbanina" are analyzing traffic and human flows on Kontraktova Square.

It is also planned to conduct a survey of Kyiv residents and Podil residents regarding their vision of the fate of the Hostynnyi Dvir.

In addition, the development of a project of building anti-damage works is underway.

Note

Hostynnyi Dvir is a shopping complex on Kontraktova Square in Kyiv, was built in 1809. On August 15, 2011, the Cabinet of Ministers excluded the Hostynnyi Dvir from the State Register of Architectural Monuments.

In 2012, the Kyiv City Council leased a plot of land near the Hostynnyi Dvir to Ukrrestavratsiia LLC for 5 years for the reconstruction of this building into a shopping and office center with a guest parking lot. This decision outraged the capital's activists, so they started a protest in the Hostynnyi Dvir. The Hostynnyi Dvir has been without a roof, windows, and plaster since the winter of 2013.

In 2018, the court terminated the lease agreement and ordered Ukrrestavratsiia to return the building, an architectural monument "Hostynnyi Dvir" to the Regional Branch of the SPFU in the city of Kyiv. At the same time, the mayor of Kyiv Vitalii Klychko stated that the city authorities were waiting for the transfer of the Hostynnyi Dvir to the community, ready to take the premises on balance and bring it to proper condition.

As Rubryka reported, in January Tkachenko asked the government to transfer the Hostynnyi Dvir to the balance of the Ministry of Culture to create a Museum of Contemporary Art and a cultural hub.

After that, Kyiv Mayor Klychko appealed to the government to hand over the Hostynnyi Dvir to the community of the capital.

In early March, Tkachenko stated that the Kyiv City State Administration hadn't yet signed the State Property Fund's appeal to transfer the Hostynnyi Dvir to the Ministry of Culture.

After that, the Kyiv City State Administration again stated that the Hostynnyi Dvir was in a state of emergency, which is why the community demands that it be transferred to public ownership to save and restore the monument.
