Clothing protecting against information junk

An innovative solution for developing critical thinking

Today, the Ukrainian information space is full of information junk and outright fakes. Despite the significant efforts of media literacy professionals and several educational initiatives, this issue is still relevant. According to the USAID-INTERNEWS survey, almost 60% of Ukrainians between the ages of 18 and 65 are not critical. Only 11% could recognize fakes. Obviously, solving this issue involves the availability of alternative approaches that will consider not only the educational component but also look for fresh approaches.

The Bohdan Havrylyshyn Family Foundation team joined in solving the issue and created an innovative project "Fashion VS Fakes," combining media, education, fashion, and critical thinking. Declaration of Human Responsibility, namely its first clause "Tell the truth" prompted the team to work with this complex topic. Statistics reinforced the inclination. A "Fashion VS Fakes" project feature was a bright collaboration of education and fashion, educational and game approaches. "We accomplished the almost impossible," says Marianna Eleiko, coordinator of the Fashion VS Fakes media literacy project-performance. "An innovative cross-sectoral educational event was created with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation. We dared to experiment and successfully combined seemingly incompatible things like fashion and performing arts to remind society of media literacy in a non-standard way."
