Today is June 14. russia's military attack on Ukraine has been going on for 111 days. We're reporting on the current news. The article will be updated.

What about today?

Key points

Хроніка подій: 111 день оборони України від російської агресії

The Conflict Intelligence Team analysts say the russian army's position in the Kherson region is highly unfavorable, and the occupying troops need many forces to hold the area. "It's a long front that the russians have had since the beginning of the invasion. Its length doesn't allow to protect it. Therefore, the russians will have to choose: do they want to defend the Kherson region, or do they want to attack Donbas? From a military-strategic point of view, the russians should withdraw from Kherson and keep the defense along the Dnieper," the CIT states.

Actual reports from the front confirm it: the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced the front line in the Zaporizhzhia region by 5-10 km. "Thus, the Ukrainian defenders are moving toward Kherson, knocking out the russian occupiers. In addition, the number of ruscist personnel has decreased significantly. It also inspired us because it is a movement towards Melitopol," said Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov.

Fighting continues on the line of contact. The enemy, trapped in the ability to maneuver on land, can only operate within the defense. An air battle took place near Snihurivka. The russian Su-35 fighter jet fired air-to-air missiles on a pair of our Mi-8s. Helicopters managed to dodge. The ruscists, saving the missiles, retreated. Over Mykolaiv and the Kherson region, our air defense brought down one Orlan UAV.

The enemy losses are 28 russian service members, ten units of equipment, including air reconnaissance vehicles, a Msta-B howitzer, command and staff vehicle, and five armored and other vehicles.

The Ukrainian army continues to attack russian positions on the eastern bank of the Inhulets River in the northwest of the Kherson region. There are battles for Davydiv Brid.

It's scorching today on the Eastern front as well. The battles for Sievierodonetsk continue, but the city isn't fully captured. The occupiers launched an unsuccessful offensive southeast of Izium and north of Sloviansk. Over the past day, our soldiers destroyed:

  • 48 soldiers of russian personnel;
  • one IFV;
  • one unit of special equipment;
  • two mortars;
  • two AT-T tanks;
  • one UAV;
  • two ammunition depots;

one fuel and lubricants depot.

In total, 32,500 occupiers have died since the start of russia's full-scale invasion. Just yesterday, 200 ruscists were eliminated on all fronts!

"I ask everyone who has an opportunity to communicate with people in the occupied South, in the Donbas, in the Kharkiv region. Tell them, tell them about Ukraine. Tell them the truth. Say that we will liberate them.

Speak to Kyrylivka, Henichesk, Berdiansk, and Manhush. Speak to Horlivka, Donetsk, Luhansk. Speak to everyone in the Kharkiv region still forced to see the russian flag on Ukrainian soil. Tell them that the Ukrainian army will come," Zelensky said in his daily address.

Ukraine doesn't abandon children who've been forcibly taken away by the russians; they are being searched for and returned. "We are looking for these children today and trying to make lists. Each repatriation from our side is a real special operation," said Deputy PM and Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk and called on international institutions to help Ukraine. As of today, several dozen young Ukrainians have already returned home. According to Vereshchuk, we cannot waste time. After all, russia uses children for anti-Ukrainian propaganda and later is going to adopt them illegally.

The National Police called the preliminary number of civilians killed since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion. According to the head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko, more than 12,000 civilian deaths are currently being investigated, and 1,200 bodies have not yet been identified. These are only approximate figures.

Humanitarian missions

Thirty-two people were rescued from Pryvilia in the Luhansk region from shelling. During a search of the premises damaged by enemy attacks, police officers found a bomb shelter where people were staying. Civilians wanted to evacuate, the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, said. Police had to make three attempts to save everyone who was hiding there. All 32 people have left the Luhansk region for Ukraine's safe areas.

About 70 residents were evacuated from Lysychansk and surrounding settlements. "Evacuation now is a bunch of stages of risk," says Serhii Haidai. "First, our Heroes—police officers, SES officers, and volunteers—have to come to you (and they make several visits). Then you have to run under fire to the car, then hours of travel with a prayer that the shell wouldn't get in the car (and sometimes the car is shelled). The best thing is when the Heroes open the car door and say: 'You are in a more or less safe place.'"

Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said she would do everything possible to secure the release of two British citizens who had been sentenced to death in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic.

Path to the EU

The European Commission will insist on granting Ukraine the candidate status for EU membership, Politico reports. The publication argues that the EU is acutely aware of what Ukrainians had to sacrifice: "The Commission does not forget that Ukraine is the only country in Europe where people died, where people were shot at because they were on the streets carrying EU flags," one senior official said. "Now, we cannot tell them, 'sorry guys, you were waving the wrong flags.'"

In addition, the United States has stated that it will not interfere in the debate on Ukraine's request for accelerated accession to the EU because the European Union must solve this issue. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated this during the press briefing on June 13.

Who's coming to Ukraine?

On financial and information aid, weapons and politicians

Volunteers from more than five dozen countries have joined the International Legion. "We have representatives from 55 countries of all continents, even as far away as Brazil, South Korea, and Australia," said Legion spokesperson Damien Magrou. In addition, Magrou noted that most of the legion were Americans and British, followed by Poles and Canadians, and then representatives of different countries. Many fighters are from the Baltic States and the Nordic countries.

The United States and its allies are ready to provide Ukraine with all the weapons to defeat russia. Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin said during the briefing, "The US is willing to provide everything and to help Ukraine be successful, mindful of the fact that we have our own readiness to keep in mind, but not only that; we have partners from around the globe that are willing to help Ukraine in meaningful ways."

Washington also plans to allocate $1.5 billion a month to Kyiv to support the Ukrainian government's work, the media report, citing the State Department.

The charity of American businessman and son of billionaire Warren Buffett, Howard Buffett, donated $2.7 million to Ukraine.

Ukrainian defenders have already mastered and skillfully used FIM-92 Stinger portable anti-aircraft missile system in battles against russian invaders. Due to these ground-to-air MANPADS and other Ukrainian air defense systems, the russians were unable to gain dominance in the sky.

News from partners

More than 40 million Poles are ready to defend their country with weapons in the event of russia's invasion, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said. According to him, the government will help build 380 new shooting ranges and pass laws that will make it easier for Poles to access weapons. Morawiecki recalled that Poland had been "under the boots of russia" for several centuries: "We do not want to return to captivity."

Sanctions on the aggressor!

Joe Biden has extended sanctions against Belarus for one year. "The Belarusian regime's harmful activities and long-standing abuses aimed at suppressing democracy and the exercise of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Belarus—including illicit and oppressive activities stemming from the August 9, 2020, fraudulent Belarusian presidential election and its aftermath, such as the elimination of political opposition and civil society organizations and the regime's disruption and endangering of international civil air travel—constituted an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States," the White House said in a statement.

Manufacturers of high-speed elevators, including the American Otis and the Finnish Kone, have stopped accepting orders from russian developers, so the market is in short supply. russian manufacturers are not yet "ready" to produce such elevators.

British intelligence reports that russia will face problems in replenishing its stockpiles due to Western sanctions and a lack of experience. There are difficulties with producing high-quality optics and advanced electronics in russia, and it could undermine efforts to replace equipment lost in Ukraine. An increase in military spending by 600-700 billion rubles will not help due to the remaining sanctions pressure.

On June 14, the European Union will disconnect Sberbank, russia's largest bank, Rosselkhozbank, and Moscow Credit Bank, from the SWIFT interbank system as part of a package of 6 sanctions against russia.

Life considering hostilities

Two good news for Ukrainians abroad: in diplomatic missions, it will be possible to obtain documents on graduation from schools and universities and issue foreign and ordinary passports.

The Rozetka online retailer excluded fireworks, firecrackers, and other pyrotechnics from the sale. Its use could harm many Ukrainians affected by the war. The company's press service reported this. Rozetka co-founder Vladyslav Chechotkin said that Ukraine needed a ban on the sale of pyrotechnics because "even thunder causes panic in people, let alone fireworks, which are similar to bomb blasts." He called on other Ukrainian retailers and companies to join the initiative as soon as possible and withdraw pyrotechnics from the sale.

The enemy destroyed all three bridges leading to Sievierodonetsk. But the occupiers didn't fully capture Sievierodonetsk; a part of the city is under Ukrainian control. Evacuation and transportation of humanitarian aid are impossible. In case of rapid expulsion of the occupiers from the city, it will be impossible to renew utility services until the winter. The head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, reported the update.

The invaders also continue to shell Lysychansk. There is an evacuation from this city, and humanitarian aid is delivered daily.

More than 50 residents of Lysychansk, which borders Sievierodonetsk, are suspected of passing data to the enemy. The data was leaked through Starlink, whose terminals are installed in all humanitarian headquarters in the city.

In Mariupol, the occupiers announced the "first children's ward" of the hospital. "In the same building next to the maternity hospital, which suffered from a russian targeted bomb. Equipment is what remains intact. Medicines are the ones that have not been looted. russians stole linen from Ukrzaliznytsia railways. Terrorists can only destroy and pretend Ukraine's achievements are theirs," said MMayor's Mayor's Adviser Petro Andriushchenko.

Kharkiv region

The enemy is raging in the Kharkiv region. The occupiers are shelling Kharkiv City and the region's Kharkiv, Izium, Bohodukhiv, and Chuhuiv districts. The shelling doesn't stop; there are dead and wounded. A man was injured in the shelling in the village of Zhukovske.

In the village of Malynivka, the occupiers' shelling wounded two children: an 11-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl. A 3-month-old child was injured in Pechenihy, and their 35-year-old mother died. In the village of Zahorodnie, one person was wounded.

In the Kharkiv district, a fire broke out in warehouses, and four trucks were on fire due to the impact of four russian missiles.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are already 10 km from Izium, OSINT analysts say. Our defenders liberated the village of Prydonetske in the Kharkiv region near the temporarily occupied Izium.

Sumy region

Хроніка подій: 111 день оборони України від російської агресії

At night and in the morning, russia's horde again shelled the territory of the Sumy region. According to the border guard service, at midnight, the russians opened fire on the border area of the Shostka district; there were ten explosions of mines and artillery shells. Another operation on an exchange of bodies of the dead Ukrainian service members took place today in the Zaporizhzhia region. The process was carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Reintegration, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other law enforcement agencies. Ukraine has returned the bodies of 64 heroic defenders of Azovstal for their dignified burial. Another 64 Azovstal defenders will be buried with dignity on their native land. Returning the dead Ukrainian service members continues.

Kherson region

According to the region's residents, the tension is not easing because the occupiers continue to shell the neighboring areas from the territory of the Kherson region and also want to recapture the lost villages. The situation in the entire Beryslav district remains steadily complicated. Most settlements have no water, electricity, or gas supplies.

Recently, our defenders drove the orcs a few kilometers away, gradually conducting counter-offensive operations towards Kherson. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have "outplayed" the occupiers in the Kherson direction and are approaching Tomyna Balka, MP Khlan reports. Serhii Khlan claims that fighting is already going on between Tavriiske and the village of Tomyna Balka, where the occupiers are stationed.

In Chaplynka, the ruscists cannot find enough "people's police officers." The orcs need them to maintain order in the occupied territories. The Center for National Resistance reported. Ten thousand people live in the village, but only four collaborators joined the occupation group. This again shows the "desire" of the locals to cooperate with the russians.

Mykolaiv region

The Inhulske community came under fire at night. The shelling continues in the Bereznehuvate community. In the morning, the Parutyne district of the Kutsuruby community was shelled. Information on casualties and injuries is being clarified.

The occupiers released them from the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea toward Odesa. West of Ukraine

The air defense forces destroyed russian missiles over Lviv and Khmelnytskyi regions. This was reported by the heads of local regional military administrations. In particular, in the Lviv region, the Ukrainian defenders shot down a missile of the russian occupiers over the city of Zolochiv. The wreckage of a russian rocket fell on a brick factory,  the head of the Lviv Regional Department, Maksym Kozytskyi, said. So far, they know that four people were injured, including a child. Doctors assess the condition of the victims as mild and moderate. The russians launched a rocket from the southeast.

The Ukrainian air defense shot down another missile over the Khmelnytskyi region. According to preliminary information, the wreckage fell in the field without damaging buildings. "Flying death" also appeared over the Ternopil region, but in this case, too, the Ukrainian air defense performed well.
