Representatives of American medical and charitable organizations presented the concept of the construction project of four emergency hospitals and veterans' rehabilitation facilities in Ukraine.

The Office of the President of Ukraine reported this.

What is the problem?

Viktor Liashko, health minister of Ukraine, noted that during the full-scale war, as a result of the actions of the Russian army, almost 1,700 medical institutions were affected: 1,501 objects of medical infrastructure were damaged and another 195 were destroyed entirely, without the possibility of further restoration.

According to him, the medical infrastructure of the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kherson regions suffered the greatest losses.

What is the solution?

Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba and Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko met with representatives of American medical and charity organizations, who presented the concept of building several medical facilities.

International partners:

  • Brock Daniel Bierman, president of the charity organization Ukraine Focus, former deputy administrator of USAID and head of USAID in Europe and Asia (2018–2021),
  • Brent W. Yessin, chief advisor of the medical company AMC Healthcare,
  • Oleksandr Reshetkov, director of the charity organization Ukraine Focus in Ukraine.

They presented the concept of the construction project of four emergency hospitals and veterans' rehabilitation facilities.

"We, Ukraine Focus and AMC Healthcare look forward to working with the Government of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health to provide even more needed assistance to the Ukrainian people," Bierman said.

Ukraine Focus has already signed a memorandum with the Ministry of Health.

For its part, the medical company AMC Healthcare:

  • provides professional consultations in the field of health care,
  • carries out the construction of modular hospitals and medical facilities,
  • provides their management services.

Kuleba thanked the partners for the timely and vital help and initiatives already being implemented in Ukraine.

"The support of partner countries is significant for Ukraine in the face of a full-scale invasion. For our part, we are ready to take all measures so that the necessary assistance arrives as soon as possible," he emphasized.

The hospitals proposed by the partners are planned to be built according to the standards of the European Union; they can be both independent institutions and parts of existing hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

In addition, each such facility will be equipped with a bomb shelter.

"Despite such challenges for the medical system, we must provide Ukrainians with access to medical care. The developments presented today – experience and technologies – are extremely relevant for Ukraine, particularly for the de-occupied territories," the head of the Ministry of Health noted.

The company Northwell Health, which will provide equipment and training of specialists, is ready to participate in the implementation of the project for the construction of medical facilities, according to the message.

For reference:

As Rubryka reported, with the support of the Japanese government, 25 hospitals in the Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, and Cherkasy regions will receive medical equipment during January.

It was also reported that the German and EU governments financed the construction of 6 modern hospitals.
