Russia has lost over 300,000 soldiers in war against Ukraine – British intelligence
According to the estimates of the British Ministry of Defense, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russians have lost more than 300,000 soldiers. However, even the Russian Federation officials cannot provide an exact number of casualties.
The British Ministry of Defense reported this on the X social network, referring to the intelligence data.
According to analysts, between February 24, 2022, and November 2023, the official forces of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation probably lost 180,000 to 240,000 people wounded and approximately 50,000 killed.
Wagner's mercenaries probably lost about 40,000 wounded and 20,000 killed.
Thus, in total, the Russian side probably lost about 220,000-280,000 wounded and nearly 70,000 killed.
This gives an approximate range of 290,000 to 350,000 total Russian combat casualties.
The median of the estimated range is 320,000 total losses of Russian combatants.
British intelligence believes that even among Russian officials, there is a low level of understanding of the total number of casualties due to a long-standing culture of dishonest reporting in the armed forces.
It is worth noting that British intelligence has confirmed the unprecedented losses in the Russian army and revealed the cause. The recent record losses in the Russian military, observed in November, can be attributed to the offensive on Avdiivka.
