Ukraine develops new powerful projectile to equip drones
A new powerful combat component has been developed in Ukraine to equip Western-style strike drones.
Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn revealed a new projectile in a statement, Rubryka reports.
What's the problem?
Drones are an integral and essential part of Ukrainian weaponry. According to Ukraine's Special Communications and Information Protection Service, the number of Ukrainian drones in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is expected to reach tens of thousands of various UAVs by the end of the year.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are known to have over 20 new drone models of Ukrainian production. This year, the Ukrainian government also allocated ₴40 billion for investments in Ukrainian drone manufacturers.
Moreover, the Ministry of Defense stated that weapons of Ukrainian production would reach the front faster as they streamlined the production cycle and testing process during the war.
However, Ukrainian defenders require many UAVs daily, and domestic production is still insufficient.
What's the solution?
European partner countries have also contributed to supporting the Ukrainian army.
"Here's one of the Western-produced strike drones that performed well on the battlefield, but the military asked to make the combat component more powerful," said Kamyshin.
Ukrainian developers decided to strengthen the striking power of the drone and created a more powerful combat component.
How does it work?
Reports indicate that tests of the new shell have already been successful. The explosion completely destroyed a 50mm thick armored plate, followed by another 16mm plate, and dented a third one, also 16mm thick.
Judging by the nature of the damage to the armored plates, the combat component has a penetrating core, which will help the drone destroy targets protected by anti-drone nets.
"This is how joint productions are born," said the minister, referring to the combination of a European-style UAV and a Ukrainian combat component.
Kamyshyn did not specify which Western drone he was referring to. However, judging by the visual size of the combat component, it can be assumed that it is intended for a medium or light-class kamikaze UAV.
Detailed specifications of the new combat component are not disclosed.
Нагадаємо, нещодавно ми писали, що ЗСУ отримали перші три безпілотники далекого радіусу дії Titan Falcon, які були надруковані на 3D-принтері німецькою компанією Donaustahl GmbH.
Rubryka recently reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine received the first three long-range Titan Falcon UAVs, which were 3D-printed by the German company Donaustahl GmbH.
Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has tested the Backfire strike drone from Ukrainian developers, which is resistant to the electronic warfare of the Russian army. The new Ukrainian strike drone Backfire has already carried out at least 50 successful missions. The UAV flies up to 35 kilometers behind enemy lines and helps target Russian artillery, logistical nodes, depots, and command posts. Ukrainian fighters were also given the first 3,000 FPV drones from the Operation Unity project.
