Ukrainian mathematician wins prestigious Joseph F international prize

Kateryna Pozharska, a graduate of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, was awarded the Joseph F. Traub Information-Based Complexity Young Researcher Award 2023 for her work in mathematics.

The Faculty of Information Technologies and Mathematics of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University reported that on Facebook.

This prize is awarded annually to only one young scientist (under 35) in the field of mathematics.

Kateryna Pozharska is a graduate of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University.

She is a research associate at the Department of Theory of Functions of the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Kateryna is also a postdoctoral researcher in the city of Chemnitz (Germany).

"The team in which she works is engaged in the research of modern problems of approximation theory and the development of algorithms for reducing information complexity, which are used in machine learning," the Faculty of Information Technologies and Mathematics says.

The award received by Kateryna consists of 1000 dollars and a commemorative plaque.

Earlier, Rubryka wrote that the Ukrainian Maryna Viazovska received the most prestigious mathematical award – the Fields medal, awarded once every four years.

It should be noted that Denys Mozok, a student of the National Aviation University, took first place in the S4A class – glider models with an accelerator for the duration of the flight.

Rubryka also reported how the Ukrainian Wikitruth project from "Ukrainian Witness" received a bronze lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival.

In addition, Diana Zazubyk, a Ukrainian graduate of the Ivano-Frankivsk Lyceum, won first place at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. The Olympics took place in Poland.
