Ukraine ramps up anti-tank missile production fourfold in 2023

Since the beginning of 2023, Ukraine has quadrupled the production of Stugna-P anti-tank missile systems.

Oleksandr Kamyshin, the Minister of Strategic Industry, reported this on the air of the national telethon.

"In July, we produced four times more Stugna than in January. And we are moving forward in increasing production. No matter how much we produce now, it will not be enough," Kamyshin said, adding, "By all technical parameters, the Stugna bypasses the Javelin ATGM."

"Javelin is a very good product, but we will systematically work to increase the production of our own product and, over time, fight for our product to be adequately represented on foreign markets," the minister noted.

He also reported that the defense-industrial complex is growing rapidly, particularly due to the reorientation of civilian enterprises to the production of defense products.

According to the minister, at the time of his appointment in February of this year, there were two suppliers of 82 mm and 120 mm mine casings in Ukraine, while today, their number has increased to 14 and 13, respectively.

"This is a good sign that the state is rebuilding the economy on military lines," Kamyshin emphasized, adding that before the start of the war, 80% of the defense industry was the state sector. At the same time, today, its share has decreased.

"And in five years after the end of the war with our victory, I am sure that it will be just the opposite: only 20% will remain in state hands. At the same time, we do not plan to privatize anything. The main reason is that private companies develop faster than state ones," the strategy and industry minister predicted.

Stugna-P is an anti-tank missile complex developed by the Kyiv Design Bureau Luch, which can fire 130 mm or 152 mm missiles with various warheads. It is semi-automatic, with a laser beam guidance system.

The operator can control Stugna-P remotely at a distance of up to 50 m. Although the complex is designed to destroy tanks and other armored targets, it can also shoot down helicopters.

The armed forces of Ukraine actively use Stugna at the front. In particular, Ukrainian defenders recently destroyed three tanks and one BMP of the Russian invaders with the help of the Ukrainian Stugna-P anti-tank missile complex.
