The Russian occupiers want to take Ukrainian children to the annexed Crimea and regions bordering Russia from the newly occupied territories.

Rubryka reports, referring to the statement of Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets on the Telegram messaging app.

"Under the pretext of the threat of constant shelling, the FSB of the Russian Federation can implement a complex of pre-planned measures to take Ukrainian children from the new temporarily occupied territories and regions bordering Russia to Crimea," said the human rights commissioner. "The children are planned to be placed in camps and recreation centers throughout the peninsula for the summer period."

Lubinets believes that in this way, the aggressors want to create conditions for reducing the risks of an expected Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Crimea direction. Also, the occupiers want to discredit the Ukrainian Armed Forces and present Ukraine as a "terrorist country."

In the information environment, they spread pro-Russian narratives as if Ukraine blew up the Kakhovka dam. The occupiers want to present the actual kidnapping of Ukrainian children as a "rescue mission."

At the same time, the FSB of the Russian Federation believes that next to children's places of rest, it is necessary to place:

  • military control points,
  • node units, such as missile or artillery units,
  • arranged places of concentration (withdrawal) of the Russian occupying forces in the event of the advance of the Ukrainian military deep into Crimea.

According to the Russian special services, the "neighborhood" of children near military facilities:

  • will not allow or make it significantly more difficult for the Ukrainian military to fire damage to the main divisions and control points of the ROV,
  • will limit or slow down the pace of advancement of the Armed Forces in Crimea,
  • will allow provocations with mass casualties and discredit the Armed Forces.

The State Duma of the Russian Federation has already initiated an appeal to the government regarding the organization of the evacuation of children from regions bordering Ukraine to summer camps and other institutions in Crimea.

The Prosecutor General's Office reported that 19,484 children were deported to Russia and the so-called republics, of which only 371 minors were returned home.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, 1,490 children have been injured, 980 minors have been injured of various degrees of severity, and at least 485 have died.
