Polish President Andrzej Duda believes that due to a possible increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees in the winter months, Warsaw and Berlin should receive more financial aid from the European Union.

As PAP reports, Duda said this at a press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on Monday.

It became known that the Polish president noted that Poland had provided large-scale military support to Ukraine, which he estimates to be approximately two billion dollars.

He noted: "We are pleased to receive information that Polish-made weapons have proven themselves well and really help Ukrainian soldiers to defend Ukrainian territory."

In particular, Duda also talked about the support provided to Ukrainian refugees and the fact that their number in Poland is growing. According to him, due to russia's destruction of critical infrastructure in Ukraine, the number of people fleeing from "cold, death, and russian missiles" is increasing.

He emphasized: "The number of refugees in Poland has increased in recent months and weeks. According to our estimates, there are now about three million of them. We talked about this with the president, as this will probably mean an increase in the number of refugees from Ukraine in Germany."

"I told the president that I think we should ask the European community, the European Commission, to have special financial support dedicated to our countries, which bear a special burden in accepting refugees fleeing the russian invasion," Duda added.

On December 6, it became known that Poland and Germany agreed not to transfer the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.
