The European Commission plans to take a step toward Ukraine's EU candidate status this week

This week, the European Commission plans to hand over a questionnaire to Ukraine, which is a necessary step for Ukraine to become a candidate.

This was stated on Monday by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna, EP reports.

"We expect that this week there will be positive news about the next steps that must be taken for Ukraine to obtain candidate status," she said, adding that this will be a questionnaire.

"It will be a non-standard document, smaller in volume. We are waiting for this document this week," the deputy prime minister added.

Stefanishyna stressed that the government had been preparing draft responses to the expected questionnaires for the past two weeks, so it is ready to respond officially in a very short time. She is convinced that in response the European Commission will confirm the candidate status for Ukraine.

"We expect that by the end of April the European Commission will complete internal procedures and confirm Ukraine's compliance with the criteria for obtaining candidate status. Then a political decision to grant Ukraine candidate status," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
