Zelenskyy believes Putin is bluffing when he threatens the world with nuclear weapons

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is bluffing when he threatens the world with nuclear weapons.

Zelenskyy stated this in an interview with DIE ZEIT, UP reports.

"I think it's a bluff. It's one thing to be a murderer. It's another to be a suicide. Any use of nuclear weapons will mean the end not only for the person who uses them. But for everything that can be dear in life for this man," the president said.

According to the President, the violation of the terms of the Budapest Memorandum, which provided Ukraine with guarantees of territorial integrity, in particular, is a mistake for the signatories.

There are countries in the world that want nuclear weapons or that know that their neighbors want to seize or seize territory from them. If Budapest were effective, we could say to these countries: here are the security guarantees you can get, and so don't even think about nuclear weapons.

The aggression against Ukraine is a clear signal to the entire world: guarantees do not work, even when the strongest in the world have signed them. Russia itself guaranteed us security. And now it is trying to destroy us. Who in the world will now hope for the power of treaties if they fear for their existence? Therefore, to severely punish Russia for this invasion of Ukraine and to achieve the liberation of our territory is, in fact, to restore the force of international law. The West can do that," he said.

According to the Budapest Memorandum, Ukraine voluntarily renounced nuclear weapons in 1994. Instead, Russia, Britain, and the United States guaranteed Ukraine's sovereignty.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has always offered Russia talks, but in order to "take any negotiations seriously, we need to see the result."

The President added that he did not see the result yet.
