Japan is closely monitoring the build-up of Russian troops on Ukraine's border and plans to work closely with the United States to take decisive action in the event of new Russian aggression.

Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Matsudo Kuninori, stated this in an interview with Suspilne.

According to him, the Japanese government is watching the situation on the border between Ukraine and Russia with concern. He also noted the importance of resuming talks in the Normandy format.

"Recently, the Prime Minister of Japan had an online meeting with US President Joseph Biden. The two leaders are determined to work closely together to deter Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Prime Minister also plans to work closely with the United States, our allies, and partners, to take decisive action, if necessary, in response to any attacks," the ambassador said.

Matsudo Kuninori didn't disclose details of the plan for cooperation between the Japanese and American governments in the event of increased Russian aggression, but assured that "the reaction will be very strong."

The ambassador also stressed that the Japanese embassy in Kyiv was operating normally, and the call of the Japanese government to leave Ukraine was only a warning in case of unforeseen situations.

Earlier, Zelenskyy responded to the Kremlin's statement about the possibility of a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine in Beijing.
