Foreign Ministry: Iran withdrew payment offer to families of those killed in UIA plane crash
Iran has withdrawn a proposal to pay the families of those killed in the UIA plane crash in Tehran because they wanted to allocate funds for compensation from the National Development Fund.
Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Yenin stated this on Hrovadske Radio.
"According to my information, the government has already withdrawn this proposal (to include 200 million euros to compensate relatives who died in the plane crash in next year's budget – ed.), as they assumed that 200 million would be allocated from the National Development Fund, which caused serious internal discussions in Iranian society. But we will welcome the Iranian government's plans to set aside a certain amount of money in the budget to pay compensation," Yenin said.
According to him, negotiations with the Iranian party on the amount of compensation haven't begun yet.
Ukraine's position is that the level of compensation will largely depend on the circumstances of the disaster and on the level of cooperation and ensuring an objective and impartial investigation.
Earlier, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Gunduz Mammadov said that the Ukrainian investigation hadn't received the materials and evidence promised by Iran in the case of the downing of the UIA flight PS752.
