New wind power plant will be launched in southern region of Mykolaiv

In the spring, Ukraine's largest private investor in the energy industry, DTEK, plans to complete the construction of the first stage of the wind power plant with a capacity of 114 MW out of the total announced 500 MW in the area of Tilihul Estuary in the southern region of Mykolaiv.

What is the problem?

Since October 2022, russia has been attacking Ukraine's critical infrastructure and many energy facilities, leading to frequent power outages all over the country. Because of the severe damage made by russian missile and kamikaze drone strikes, Ukraine needs significant investments for recovery and reconstruction and stable electricity supply capacities.

What is the solution?

The DTEK press service reports that in the spring of 2023, 19 wind turbines are expected to be launched to generate electricity for Ukraine's power system and solve the power imbalance issue.

How does it work?

The company reports that they are considering possibly completing the station's construction and bringing it to its total design capacity of 500 MW.

"We are currently looking for options for the further implementation of the project, including negotiations with international donors and partners," says DTEK, the company that is part of Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov's SCM investment group.

The installed generation capacity from renewable energy sources in Ukraine is about 10 GW, considering the temporarily occupied facilities in the country's south. Increasing the green generation to 30 GW would allow Ukraine to achieve a 50% share of RES in the power system capacity structure.
