Overnight Russian attack damages thermal and hydroelectric plants, injures six civilians

The Russian army launched several groups of drones on the evening of March 28 and, by early morning on March 29, attacked Ukraine with cruise and ballistic missiles. 

Explosions were heard in eight regions, Rubryka reports, citing the Ukrainian Air Force.

Around half past midnight, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the activity of Tu-95MS aircraft from the Olenya airbase (Murmansk Oblast, Russia), flying in the southeast direction.

During Wednesday evening and into Thursday night, the Russians launched "Shahed" drones from various directions, targeting western regions of Ukraine.

In the early hours of Friday, March 28, cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS aircraft entered Ukrainian airspace from the northern direction. Around 5:00, the Air Force reported the departure of three MiG-31K aircraft from the Savaslka airbase.

Attack on energy infrastructure

The National Energy Company "Ukrenergo" reported damage to thermal and hydroelectric power stations in central and western regions of Ukraine due to the Russian attack.

Emergency outages are currently in effect in the east-central Dnipropetrovsk region, and hourly schedules of disconnections are in place in the northeastern Kharkiv region.

Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko stated that the Russians struck facilities in Dnipropetrovsk, north-central Poltava, and central Cherkasy regions.

"The targets of drone and missile attacks included power generation facilities. Energy workers and rescuers are already working to mitigate the consequences," said the minister.

Later, the Ukrainian energy company DTEK clarified that the Russian forces attacked three of their thermal power stations:

"The equipment has been seriously damaged. After the attack, energy workers promptly began to eliminate the consequences. According to preliminary information, an energy worker was injured. The necessary assistance was promptly provided to the employee."

Lviv and Chernivtsi regions

At 2:50, Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the Lviv regional administration, announced that air defense systems were activated to repel drones attempting to attack the western Lviv region. 

According to Kozytskyi and the Air Force, residents of the Stryi district should have been especially cautious. Around 5:00, the Russians launched "Kinzhal" missiles toward Stryi, a town 70 km south of the regional center, Lviv.

The head of the Chernivtsi Regional Administration, Ruslan Zaparaniuk, reported that Ukrainian air defense destroyed Russian missiles in the region overnight.

"All relevant services have been dispatched to the debris fall sites. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties," the statement said.

Attack on Vinnytsia region

In the morning, the head of the regional administration, Serhii Borzov, reported that the Russian occupation army hit a private house with no casualties.

"Tonight, the enemy attacked Vinnytsia again with drones. In the village of Severynivka, Zhmerynka territorial community, a drone crashed near a residential building and exploded. The explosion shattered windows and damaged the house, garage, fence, and gas pipe. The fire was prevented," the statement said.

Residents were unharmed. A psychologist from the State Emergency Service worked on-site with the homeowner and his son. Seventeen houses in the village remain without electricity.

Attack on Khmelnytskyi and Ivano-Frankivsk regions

At 5:21, the Ukrainian media outlets Suspilne and Ukrinform reported explosions in the Khmelnytskyi region. At 5:35, 24 Channel reported explosions in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.

In the morning, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Administration, Svitlana Onyshchuk, reported that the Russians attacked critical infrastructure facilities.

"[Our region] was not spared. The enemy targeted a critical facility. Fortunately, there were no casualties," Onyshchuk wrote.

Massive attack on Dnipropetrovsk region

The Russians targeted a series of critical infrastructure facilities in the region. The attack injured one person in the Kamianske district of the Dnipropetrovsk region. The man was hospitalized in critical condition.

Around midnight, the Russians launched a massive attack on the region using various types of weapons. At 23:34, guided aviation missiles were launched,  followed by "Shahed" drones at 23:37. The Russians struck the region with ballistic missiles from temporarily occupied Crimea at 23:39.

Later in the morning, Lysak reported that several energy facilities were damaged in Dnipropetrovsk, Kryvyi Rih, and Kamianske districts.

In Kamianske, the Russians hit a country housing cooperative, injuring five people, including a 5-year-old child, women aged 19 and 47, and two men aged 36 and 47, one of whom is in critical condition.

Hits in Cherkasy region

A few minutes after midnight on March 29, the head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, Ihor Taburets, reported several Russian droned downed over the region.

Taburets later reported that the Russians hit an energy infrastructure facility. Also, a non-residential building was damaged due to falling debris, and windows were broken in a private household. However, there were no casualties.

Kyiv region

In the morning, the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Ruslan Kravchenko, reported no hits on residential or critical infrastructure facilities. There were no casualties in the attack.

However, in some areas, operational services recorded the falling debris of downed targets. In one territorial community, two private houses were damaged by debris. In another community, a fence and an asphalt road were damaged.

Due to the massive shelling of Ukraine, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Poland deployed its own and allied aviation.

During the night of March 29, the Armed Forces of Ukraine downed 84 Russian airborne targets.
