A Russian missile hit Odesa during the visit of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Zelensky said he was close enough to have seen and heard the strike and confirmed several people had been killed and injured. Yet, authorities haven't confirmed the information on the deceased.

"We saw this strike today. You can see who we are dealing with, they don't care where they strike. I know that there were victims today, I don't know all the details yet, but I know that there are dead and wounded."

Ukraine's leader again stressed the need to obtain more air defense systems.

"Military, civilians, international guests – these people don't care. They are either crazy or completely out of control of the fact that their terrorist army is operating. This suggests that we need to defend ourselves first and foremost. The best way to do this is with an air defense system."

Zelensky was with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the port and heard the explosions close.

"President Zelensky and his staff showed us and explained the importance of the port and what is being done to restore and strengthen the Ukrainian sea route and the damage that was done during the attacks. At the very end, we heard the sound of sirens and explosions that were very close to us. We didn't have time to get to a protected place, it was a very impressive experience."

The group later visited a residential building in Odesa where 12 people, including five children, were killed in a Russian drone strike.

The strike on Odesa came just hours after Russia launched overnight drone strikes on locations across Ukraine in the largest wave of aerial attacks for weeks.
