British intelligence: Russian higher education experiencing surge in militarization

British Intelligence believes that opening the Institute of World Military Economy and Strategy at the Moscow Higher School of Economics indicates a closer interaction between Russian academic circles and the defense sector.

The Ministry of Defense of Great Britain reports this on the X social network.

In February 2024, a new military research institute was established at the Moscow Higher School of Economics (HSE).

The Institute of World Military Economy and Strategy, as it is called, was created by the uncompromising political scientist Sergey Karaganov.

It will be headed by Admiral Serhiy Avakyants, the former commander of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Federation, who was dismissed from his post in April 2023.

Avakyants believes that Russia is in a state of long-term confrontation with the West.

The new institute will focus on studying politics and economics, with a particular emphasis on foreign countries' military-industrial complexes. It will also research strategic deterrence and the role of nuclear weapons.

Employees of the institute are planned to be recruited chiefly from various faculties of the Higher School of Economics.

In addition, researchers from various military academies, such as the Russian General Staff Military Academy, will be invited to the institute.

"This, most likely, will lead to closer interaction between Russian academic circles and the defense sector, which will contribute to strengthening the militarization of higher education," British intelligence believes.

For reference:

As reported by Rubryka, British intelligence noted that due to the aggressive war that Russia started against Ukraine, the Russian Federation faced a shortage of medical workers throughout the country.

It should be noted that to suppress any possible revival of a broader public movement in support of Russian soldiers and against the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin censored a protest by the wives of mobilized soldiers in Moscow on February 3.
