Russian drones strike Ukraine's southern Odesa region: fires and casualties reported
On Thursday night, December 14, Russia once again attacked Ukraine's southern Odesa region.
The raid caused damage to buildings, fires broke out, and over ten local residents were affected, including children, Rubryka reports, citing the State Emergency Service (SES).
Rescuers reported that as a result of the air attack, a car and an outbuilding caught fire. Eleven nearby buildings were damaged.
On-site, the first responders set up a mobile warming point. Psychologists from SES are working with the affected residents. The Red Cross is providing food and warm clothing. Eight units of equipment and 30 rescuers from SES are involved in the response.
The wreckage of the downed "Shahed" drones damaged the dormitory.
"Russian occupiers initiated an attack on Odesa for the second evening in a row. The air defense forces effectively downed every enemy object. The dormitory suffered damage from the falling debris of the downed kamikaze drones," said Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.
He noted that 11 people were affected by the falling debris, including three children. After a medical examination, five people, including three children, were hospitalized with physical injuries.
Two 8-year-old boys and a 12-year-old girl suffered concussions and closed head injuries, while adults sustained concussions and injuries.
The fire has already been extinguished.
After striking Odesa, the Russians started attacking the Izmail district. There, their forces directed over 20 attack drones.
Their target was the port infrastructure. Warehouse buildings suffered damage. No casualties were reported.
"The air defense forces effectively responded to all attack drones. Two were destroyed in the Kherson region, five in the Mykolaiv region, and 32 in the Odesa region. The enemy directed its attacks both at the regional center city and the southern part of the region, near the Danube River," said the report from the South Defense Forces.
Russian attacks on the Odesa region
The Russian forces nearly daily strike peaceful cities in Ukraine using kamikaze drones and various types of missiles.
The Odesa region became one of the priority targets after Russia withdrew from the "grain deal." Occupiers shell the port infrastructure and the energy system with the onset of cold weather.
On the night of December 13, Russia attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones and missiles from the Balaklava area in Crimea.
Due to the falling debris of the downed drones in the Odesa region, a fire broke out. Two civilians were affected in the attack. Later, one of the injured men died in the hospital.
Also, on the night of December 7, Russian forces attacked the Odesa region with kamikaze drones. The port infrastructure was hit, and a driver was killed.
On the night of December 2, Russian forces again attacked the Odesa region with kamikaze drones. One of the eleven Shahed drones used in the attack hit an infrastructure facility in the region.
