Eco-solution: new forest planted near Hostomel airport, site of failed Russian seizure attempts
A new forest is being created in the Kyiv region near Hostomel airport. 4,500 oak and pine saplings have been planted on land prepared beforehand.
The State Environmental Inspection of the capital district reported this.
What is the problem?
On the very first day of the war, February 24, 2022, the Russian occupiers aimed to seize the strategically important Antonov airport near the town of Hostomel. On the same day, the battles for the Hostomel airport began. The invaders attacked from helicopters, and they managed to capture the airport, but later, Ukraine's armed forces liberated the territory of the airport.
The territory, in particular, the forests of the State Enterprise "Klavdiievska Forest Research Station," were also occupied by the enemy from the first days of the full-scale war. During the occupation, there were heavy battles; the Russians fired with everything they could at that time.
Therefore, even now, most of the forests on the company's balance sheet are dangerous to visit and have not been explored.
"Therefore, visiting them is strictly prohibited," emphasized the ecological inspection.

"By restoring forests, we take care of the future of Ukraine's environment! Almost every sapling is a future tree that will become part of the green lungs of our country," emphasized the eco-inspection.

It should be noted that 1 billion trees will be planted in the country as part of the President's environmental program "Green Country."
For reference:
Taking into account the realities of today, "Mykolaiv Forest Management" of the state enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" has decided the planting of forests.
As of May 2023, foresters have planted 48.2 million seedlings in Ukraine within the framework of the President's environmental program "Green Country."
Furthermore, starting June 1, 2023, Ukraine initiated a trial run of electronically issuing logging tickets and certificates of origin for timber products. The "Forest in a Smartphone" project has been implemented, providing a directory of logging tickets for wood harvesting and enabling individuals to verify the legality of logging through the department's online map.
Rubryka also reported that a Forest Museum is being created in the oldest forestry in Kyiv.
