Russian drones attack Odesa and Kirovohrad region by night

On Thursday night, Russian troops attacked Ukraine's southern and central regions with Iranian-made Shahed drones.

RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the statement of Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, that Russian drones once again targeted the Odesa region. Tonight's attack is the third this week. Russian forces launched drones at the region's ports on Monday and Tuesday, causing fires and destruction.

"Our air defense forces did a great job," Kiper said, adding that tonight's strikes made no hits and caused no destruction or casualties. The authorities recorded only a few small foci of ignition of dry grass caused by the falling debris of downed Shahed drones.

On the night of September 28, Russian troops also attacked the central Kirovohrad region with Shahed attack drones, Rubryka reports, referring to the head of the Kirovohrad administration, Andrii Raikovych.

"We survived an extremely difficult night," said Raikovych. "The enemy drone attack did not bypass the Kirovohrad region. Some of the Shaheds above the region were destroyed. However, there were also impacts."

The head of the region said, "According to initial data, there were no casualties and no damage to the civil infrastructure. All relevant services are at the scene."

Night attack on Ukraine on September 28

The Russian forces launched several groups of drones over Ukraine. The attack was massive, says Natalia Humeniuk, spokesperson for the South operational command.

"The air defense was quite effective — over 30 drones were destroyed. The General Staff and the Air Force will provide a more accurate figure," she said.

Humeniuk noted that the operational situation in the south is quite tense because the Russians do not stop raids, pressure, and search for new attack tactics.

Humeniuk said the anti-aircraft defense was activated along the entire south in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions and above in the central regions.

The Air Force reported that the Russian forces attacked Ukrainian with 44 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs from the southeast — Primorsko-Akhtarsk area in Russia and Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea.

The Air Force and anti-aircraft defense downed 34 drones. Fighter jets, anti-aircraft missile units, and mobile fire groups repelled the attack.

During the past day, the air defense downed six reconnaissance drones of operational-tactical level (Orlan, Zala, Superkam).
