Ukraine and Sweden agreed on the joint production of the CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles.

Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Maliar announced this on Telegram.

What is the problem?

A war is raging in Ukraine. Armored vehicles that can maneuver well across difficult terrain were required to shield the troops at the battlefront, allowing the infantry to stay safe from the shockwave of explosions and battle while inside the vehicle.

They're essential for providing fire support and enhancing infantry maneuverability and safety with combat tanks.

What is the solution?

Ukraine and Sweden will jointly produce CV-90 high-terrain infantry fighting vehicles with reinforced multilayer armor.

How does it work?

"The CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle is called the best infantry vehicle in the world. Designed and manufactured in Sweden, it has everything that a modern combat vehicle should have, and its main advantage is taking care of the crew (three people) and the landing party (up to eight people ) because such protection as the CV-90 does not exist in any other vehicle," said Maliar.

The safety of people inside the CV-90 is ensured by strong reinforced multilayer armor made of rolled steel sheets. On top – additional composite materials, and as a third layer, mounted armor modules can be installed. This combination protects the crew and landing party from bullets and shrapnel, detonation on mines, artillery fire, and even drone attacks.

According to Maliar, the CV-90s were delivered to  Ukraine's armed forces in the summer of 2023 and are already performing combat tasks at the front. For the first time, these vehicles were spotted on the Lyman front, where the enemy had been trying to break through the defenses for several months.

"In one of the battles, the Swedish infantry fighting vehicles were covering infantry units from tank fire, and at that moment, it was hit by a Russian kamikaze drone "Lancet." However, neither the crew nor the landing party inside was injured – they transferred to another vehicle and continued to perform combat tasks," – said Maliar and added that if instead of the CV-90 there was a Soviet BMP-1 or BMP-2 infantry vehicle, no one would have survived, because there is no armor on these machines.

According to the deputy minister of defense, the Swedish vehicle has effective anti-tank weapons and a powerful automatic 40 mm cannon that can fire at a distance of up to 3 kilometers, and the maximum firing range is more than 12 kilometers.

As Maliar noted, the CV-90 uses a revolutionary chassis with Formula 1 technologies when the suspension adapts to the surface. This provides exceptionally high passability, and rubber inserts in the tracks significantly reduce the noise level during movement. Ukrainian defenders say that 200 meters away, the Swedish infantry vehicle cannot even be heard.

"Soon, Ukraine's armed forces will receive many more such vehicles because Ukraine and Sweden have agreed on the joint production of the CV-90. And the nearest goal is 1,000 Swedish infantry fighting vehicles for the Ukrainian army," Maliar emphasized.

For reference:

As Rubryka wrote, on August 19, in Sweden, representatives of Kyiv and Stockholm signed a declaration of intent regarding the joint production and maintenance of Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles.

We also reported that at the MSPO International Defense Industry Exhibition in Poland, the arms company "Ukrainian Armored Vehicles" presented a new modification of the armored vehicle "Novator" – a 10-seater armored vehicle with improved maneuverability and enhanced anti-mine protection.
