Since the beginning of February, the number of confirmed killed russian occupiers who fought against Ukraine has increased sharply, which may indicate the start of the russian offensive in Donbas. It is noted that during the entire time of the invasion of Ukraine, this is the most significant increase in the losses of the russian invaders.

The russian BBC branch reported this information.

Journalists have found that over the past 14 days, the number of confirmed russian casualties in the war in Ukraine has five times exceeded the usual weekly figures.

The article reads that russia's confirmed losses have begun to increase significantly since mid-December 2022.

Last year, russian sources reported about 250-300 dead soldiers every week. Already in January 2023, these figures doubled.

It is noted that the russian BBC branch, in conjunction with the Mediazona media outlet and a team of volunteers, confirmed the names of 1,679 killed soldiers. This is five times more than the usual figures, which became known every week until February. The authors of the material draw attention to the fact that this is the most significant increase in losses of the russian military during the entire invasion of Ukraine.

"And we are talking only about those data that we manage to find and check according to open sources; that is, the real number of losses is definitely even greater," the article emphasizes.

The publication also indicated that open sources report about the death of 1,121 mobilized Russians. 40% of them died in the period from January 1.

For reference:

US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland stated that more than 200,000 Russians were killed or wounded in the war against Ukraine during the year. The official added that "russians lost more than half of their military equipment in some categories in this war."
