Poland is trying to solve logistical problems, which will make it possible to quickly transport grain intended for African and Asian countries from Ukraine to the countries' seaports

Ukrinform reports.

The first meeting of the interdepartmental group on the transportation of agricultural and food products from Ukraine took place in Poland.

It took place on Wednesday in the Ministry of Agriculture of Poland under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Poland Henryk Kowalczyk.

The meeting participants analyzed the situation regarding the possibility of transporting agricultural and food products from the territory of Ukraine.

The group discussed logistics issues in three main places:

  • at border crossings,
  • by rail transport,
  • in seaports.

The ministers divided the tasks.

The most urgent tasks are:

  • further improvement of border checkpoints by increasing the number of veterinarians,
  • possible construction of temporary warehouses on the border with Ukraine.

"It is also important to improve the possibilities of railway traffic for 15 trains based on wagon carts that Ukrainians have so that grain can be transported directly in Ukrainian wagons to the port in Gdańsk," said Deputy Prime Minister Kowalczyk.

He added that grain trucks would also go to the Gdańsk port.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the possibility of creating a grain terminal with a storage area of about 100,000 tons. It would make it possible to export both Ukrainian and Polish grain on a large scale.

"Grains are a critical product for countering the prospect of famine in Africa and Arab countries. We are obliged to help Ukraine with exports.

For this, we must consider different solutions and look for new opportunities," Deputy Prime Minister Kowalczyk emphasized.

The interdepartmental group on the transportation of agricultural and food products from Ukraine is an auxiliary body created on June 23 by the head of the Polish government.

It includes, in particular, representatives of ministries and departments:

  • of agriculture,
  • state assets,
  • economy,
  • internal and foreign affairs,
  • Minister for Poland's EU Membership,
  • head of the prime minister's office,
  • head of the government agency of strategic reserves of Poland.

We will remind you that 22 million tons of grain are currently blocked in Ukrainian ports.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is actively working on solving the issue of unblocking the export of grain crops.

More than 20 companies are already planning or have started building transshipment facilities in areas where new logistics routes run.

In the four months since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine managed to export only 5.2 million tons of agricultural products. Until February 24, the country exported 4-5 million tons of grain monthly through domestic seaports.
