Eco-solution: students from Ternopil region launch a campaign against violence against animals and birds

Natalia Dmytriv, a student from Chortkov, initiated an awareness initiative against violence against animals and birds. The girl studies at Ivano-Frankivsk college. She says that they are currently undergoing a summer internship and one of the tasks is to draw a bird.

Natalia and her classmates chose a peacock for the picture because she says, they saw a video on the Internet of how a man killed such a bird in the Chernivtsi region, hitting it several times on the ground, and the peacock died, Suspilne reports.

The video itself became a namesake for animal cruelty and pushed the students to create a campaign to support animal rights and eliminate violence against animals and birds.

"I study at the college of King Danylo University, majoring in creative design. Once I was surfing TikTok and scrolling through recommendations. I came across a video where a man was abusing a peacock. I called on my classmates to draw a peacock and thus express their frustration with the man's actions and call on everyone to be against violence against animals," says the student.

As for the man Natalka saw in the video, the police opened a criminal case for animal cruelty, after animal rights activists appealed to the police, the UAnimals organization reports. The perpetrator faces up to 8 years in prison.

"Do not be indifferent to the suffering of animals! Witnesses to the abuse of the bird could have stopped this crime and saved the peacock from a painful and unjust death. Every life is important. Remember that!" the UAnimals stressed.

Yulia Syvous from Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk region, also joined this initiative.

"To begin with, we schematically depicted the peacock, so that it would be easy to color it in the future. First, we drew the head, body, tail, and feathers. Then we mixed the colors that we would need for the work on the palette. The yellow color was mixed with blue to get green and it color the feathers. At the last stage of the work, we depict highlights and wait for the paints to dry," says Yulia Syvous.

In addition to students, residents of Chortkov joined the initiative. Among them is Anastasia Dzhulinska.

The girl created an application with a peacock.

"I believe that people who commit crimes against animals should bear full responsibility for it in court because it is immoral. In my work, a small application, the red background symbolizes the danger that society poses to animals, and the blue peacock symbolizes helplessness, sadness, and the impossibility of protecting oneself from this society," said Yulia Syvous.
