The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, stated that the decision to introduce a visa regime with Russia was carefully considered.

He said this on Friday, June 17, after the relevant decision of the Cabinet of Ministers to terminate the visa-free agreement with the aggressor country.

"This is a well-thought-out step that will protect the national security of our state. And it is symbolic that the decision on the visa regime with the russians coincided with the announcement by the European Commission of a recommendation to grant Ukraine the EU candidate status. The direction of our state is obvious," Kuleba stressed.

According to him, Ukraine should "clearly understand" who is coming to its territory and for what purpose.

"The visa regime will help identify people who threaten national security," he added.

A visa regime with russia will be introduced from July 1, 2022.

Today it became known that the European Commission recommends granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
