In his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described russia's aggressive war in Ukraine as a failure.

Stern quoted Scholz's speech.

The chancellor also said putin should not win.

"He has already missed all his strategic goals. russia capturing the whole of Ukraine today seems more distant than at the beginning of the war," Olaf Scholz said.

The German chancellor also believes that putin has underestimated the unity and strength of NATO, the EU, and the G7.

"putin should not win his war. And I am convinced that he will not win it," Scholz emphasized.

The chancellor called on putin to make it clear that neither Ukraine nor the West would accept the peace he had dictated.

He also stressed that because of putin's aggressive war, Germany was delivering weapons to the war zone for the first time.

"putin will enter into serious peace talks only if he realizes that he cannot break Ukraine's defense," Scholz said.

The chancellor warned of dramatic consequences if russia succeeded in its invasion.

"putin wants a return to a world order that might dictate what is right — in which freedom, determination, and sovereignty are not for everyone," Scholz said, adding that it was imperialism.

"This is an attempt to push us back to a time when war was a common political instrument when there was no stable peace order on our continent and in the world," said the German chancellor.

The Scholz government has been criticized for delaying the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine, which is essential to repel russia's offensive in Donbas.

He is criticized not only in his country but also abroad.

In particular, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that Berlin had not fulfilled its promise to supply Leopard tanks instead of the existing Polish tanks that his country had provided to Ukraine.
