Russian delegation: Russia is not against Ukraine's accession to the EU

At the talks in Istanbul, Russia stated that Russia wasn't against Ukraine's accession to the EU.

This was stated by the presidential aide and head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky, RIA Novosti reported.

"For its part, the Russian Federation does not object to Ukraine's desire to join the European Union," Medinsky said.

Medinsky also said that Ukraine's proposals on security guarantees didn't apply to the territory of Crimea and Donbas, but, according to him, Ukraine must abandon the desire to return these territories by military means.

To recap, Oleksandr Chalyi, a former deputy foreign minister of Ukraine and a member of the Ukrainian delegation, said that it was fundamentally important for Ukraine not to object to the future EU accession treaty, and the guarantor countries must commit to promoting these processes.

As reported, Ukraine at the talks in Istanbul made a proposal to sign a new international agreement on security guarantees.

According to Chalyi, security guarantees for Ukraine are a possible diplomatic format for ending the war.
