Two projects on transformation of coal regions to be implemented this year

The launch of projects on the transformation of coal regions in Chervonohrad (Lviv region) and Myrnohrad (Donetsk region) is planned this year.

"The projects launched in the coal industry are important and will be implemented this year. These are projects on the transformation of coal regions. Two projects on fair transformation in Chervonohrad and Myrnohrad have been prepared for launch," Energy Minister of Ukraine German Galushchenko said at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to the minister, the projects will be implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the governments of Great Britain and Germany.

In addition, Galushchenko said, the state budget for 2022 provides funds for the coal industry development for the first time since 2018.

As reported, on September 22, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the concept of the State Target Program for Fair Transformation of Coal Regions of Ukraine until 2030. The program will cover about 20 territorial communities in Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Lviv regions.

On July 14, 2021, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that Ukraine was officially launching a program for the fair transformation of coal regions: pilot projects would be implemented with the support of international partners in Chervonohrad and Myrnohrad.
