President: Nord Stream 2 is a direct security trap for everyone

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi is convinced that the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project is a weapon against not only Ukraine but the whole of Europe in the future.

"Currently, the biggest challenge for Ukraine in this area [energy], is completion and launch of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Putting it into operation is not about the economy. It is a weapon against Ukraine, and I am sure it will be a weapon against the whole of Europe in the future. It is a direct security trap for everyone," Zelenskyi said at the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. International Relations", an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He pointed out the need to continue to oppose the implementation of this project and involve all partners in this "difficult struggle."

"The whole of Europe must unite to counter this energy threat," he said.

As reported, Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is designed to supply 55 billion cubic meters of gas annually from Russia to Germany. In December 2019, due to U.S. sanctions, a number of Western companies withdrew from the project. In particular, a pipe-laying vessel stopped its works, which made it impossible to complete the project in time. Since then, the Russian side has been trying to complete the project by own efforts.

Ukraine, Poland, the Baltic States, other countries, and the European Parliament actively oppose the completion of the project.
