Escalation in the east: Heads of Polish and Lithuanian parliaments coming to Ukraine

The Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Paulius Saudargas will pay a visit to Ukraine on April 19-24.

Ukrinform reported this referring to the press service of the Polish Sejm.

"The visit is connected with the situation in the region, which is dynamic," the lower chamber of the Polish parliament said.

As noted, meetings and trips to Ukraine will take place in the format of the Lublin Triangle (Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania). Ruslan Stefanchuk, First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, will take part in them on behalf of the Ukrainian party.

In a comment to RAR, Małgorzata Gosiewska said that the visit to Ukraine would be an element of "expressing solidarity with Ukraine" and "counteracting Russian aggression."

"Ukraine should know that it's not alone and that Vladimir Putin should realize that the next steps against Ukraine will provoke a vehement protest," said the Deputy Marshal of the Polish Sejm.

According to her, after the visit, Ukrainian, Polish and Lithuanian politicians will adopt a joint declaration.

Gosiewska said that it was the first such visit within the framework of the Lublin Triangle. She added that it's carried out on her initiative.

Note

The Lublin Triangle is a format of trilateral cooperation between Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania, launched by the Foreign Ministers of the three countries in July 2020 in Lublin. The new format aims to deepen political, economic, and social cooperation between the three countries and support Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

As reported earlier, with Gosiewska's personal participation and assistance, Polish and Ukrainian volunteers conducted more than 60 interviews with prisoners, as well as created a report "Russian war crimes in Ukraine in 2014."

In 2016, the Polish politician personally submitted this report to the International Criminal Court in the Hague. In January this year, she said that the ICC had taken this report into account when reviewing materials on crimes in eastern Ukraine.
