Five NATO countries discuss defense support opportunities for Ukraine - Pentagon

The Ministries of Defense of the United States, UK, Canada, Lithuania, and Poland held virtual talks on the situation around Ukraine, as well as potential opportunities for support in security and defense.

It was stated in a Pentagon's official statement, released on Wednesday after discussions, Ukrinform reports.

"The leaders reaffirmed their firm support for Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and discussed concerns over increased Russian military activity in the region," the US Defense Department said.

It's noted that the parties reaffirmed their intention to conduct training and provide support to Ukraine to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Armed Forces, as well as to make progress on interoperability with NATO.

The Secretary of State for Defense of the United Kingdom Ben Wallace initiated the meeting.

To recap, the United States, Western countries, and NATO have expressed firm support for Ukraine amid the escalation in the Donbas, as well as the build-up of Russian forces along the Ukrainian border.
