Privatbank's case: bank's former top manager turned millions of hryvnias over to his wife and daughter after his detention

Former Deputy Chairperson of the Board of PrivatBank Volodymyr Yatsenko transferred tens of millions of hryvnias to his civilian wife and daughter after his detention on February 22.

Slidstvo.Info reports.

In the evening of February 22 and during the day on February 23, Yatsenko transferred tens of millions of hryvnias which he owned through shares in companies to his civilian wife and daughter.

On the evening of February 22, Yatsenko transferred his corporate rights to his civilian wife in several companies.

The next day, February 23, Yatsenko's daughter, Hanna, also received enormous assets in two agricultural companies. In particular, the company "Ulianivka Ahro" completely passed to the daughter. And these are 23 real estate objects, 500 land plots, and 17 cars.

On the same day, the daughter received 90% of Mashivka Agro Alliance from her father. Hanna Yatsenko received a share of the company for 32.5 million hryvnias. The company owns 28 real estate objects, 2483 land plots, and 64 cars.

All this was happening when the detained banker was in a temporary detention center. According to journalists, the companies were transferred based on a notarized power of attorney, which Yatsenko signed, probably on the eve of his detention in Boryspil.

The journalists tracked down these registration actions through the Unified State Register of the Ministry of Justice, as these assets were owned by the suspected banker before the arrest. It's possible that, in fact, more assets were transferred to Yatsenko's relatives.

Usually in such corruption cases, immediately after the arrest, NABU detectives impose a so-called preliminary seizure on the suspect's property and assets. They do this so that the detainee cannot turn them over to other people, as happened in this case. Detectives and prosecutors then go to the High Anti-Corruption Court to have the judge decide whether to seize the suspect's assets.

Since law enforcement officers went to court after the assets were transferred to a civilian wife, the High Anti-Corruption Court refused to arrest them. As for the assets that were transferred to the banker's daughter, according to Slidstva.Info sources in the anti-corruption bodies, law enforcement officers haven't appealed to the court to arrest them yet.

Journalists turned to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau to find out how it happened and who's to blame. The press service replied that the detectives didn't initiate the temporary seizure of this property in advance due to workload and other priorities.

"In connection with the possible leak of information on approving notices of suspicion to persons committing criminal offenses, the investigative team in the period from 22.02.2021 to 25.02.2021 carried out other urgent procedural actions… Considering the above circumstances and the need to prioritize urgent investigating actions in the conditions of limited human resources, the issue of imposing temporary arrest on the suspect's property wasn't initiated," the response reads.

A few days after the detention, the High Anti-Corruption Court remanded bail for Yatsenko. He has already posted bail and has been released from the pre-trial detention center.

To recap, three former high-ranking PrivatBank employees were charged with embezzlement through abuse of office committed by a group of individuals on a large scale, and forgery, which led to the embezzlement of UAH 136 million. These are Oleksandr Dubilet, former chairperson of the bank's board, Volodymyr Yatsenko, former deputy chairperson of the board, and Olena Bychykhina, first deputy chairperson of the board of Inderzhstrakh (Dnipro).

Earlier, the media spread information about the detention of the First Deputy Chairperson of the Board of PrivatBank of 2016 Volodymyr Yatsenko by NABU employees.

According to intelligence information, the ex-official planned to leave Ukraine on a private plane toward Vienna, having departed from Dnipro. Thanks to the efforts of the head of the group of detectives and the director of NABU, who appealed to the State Aviation Service, the plane landed at Boryspil Airport, where urgent investigative actions were launched.
