More than 200,000 complaints of domestic violence registered in Ukraine in 2020

Over the past year, anti-domestic violence bodies and institutions in Ukraine registered 211,362 complaints of domestic violence.

The National Social Service of Ukraine reported this at the request of Radio Svoboda.

Thus, 180,921 appeals came from women, 27,676 from men, and 2,756 from children.

The National Social Service added that as of January 1, 2021, there were 33 shelters for victims of domestic violence in 18 regions and Kyiv.

In Zakarpattia, Odesa, and Chernivtsi regions, there are three shelters each; in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions — two shelters each; in Vinnytsia, Volynska, Zaporizhia, Luhansk, Rivne, Ternopil, Kherson and Khmelnytsky regions — one each.

At the beginning of 2021, there were no shelters for victims of domestic violence in Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Sumy, and Zhytomyr regions.

The social service also noted that there were 304 mobile teams of social and psychological assistance to victims of domestic violence and gender-based violence in Ukraine. There are also 10 day-care centers in the country for victims of violence.
