United to win: Germany intends to purchase three HIMARS launchers for Ukraine
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced the intention to buy three HIMARS rocket launchers from the United States of America and then transfer them to Ukraine.
Boris Pistorius announced this during his visit to Washington on May 9, according to the t-online portal.
"In cooperation with the Americans, we will purchase three HIMARS launchers for Ukraine. They will come from the US armed forces and will be paid for by us," the head of the German Defense Ministry said at a meeting with journalists.
Pistorius stressed the significance of the Northern Alliance's support for Ukraine at this critical time, as Putin's triumph would enable autocratic rulers all over the globe to act with impunity.
It should be noted that, on April 13, Germany announced the urgent transfer of one Patriot anti-aircraft missile complex to Ukraine.
For reference:
On July, 2022, the administration of the US president announced the allocation of a package of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of up to $175 million, which will include the provision of weapons to Ukraine's armed forces and training of the Ukrainian military.
According to John Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator of the White House National Security Council, Ukraine was also given four additional HIMARS MLRS systems, 580 Phoenix Ghost unmanned aerial vehicles, and 36,000 other munitions and equipment.
Kyiv has received nearly 40 HIMARS launchers from the United States. As these systems have been successfully utilized in the USA, their production has increased.
It is worth adding that US President Joe Biden signed a bill financing aid to Ukraine and announced the rapid dispatch of military aid to Ukraine. The first package of the new aid included ammunition for HIMARS, 155 mm artillery shells, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, heavy anti-tank guided missiles (TOW), RIM-7 and AIM-9M air defense missiles, and more.
