Massive drone attack targets Morozovsk military airfield in Rostov region, Russia
Last night, drones launched an attack on the Morozovsk military airfield situated in the Rostov region. Russian "air defense forces" allegedly destroyed more than 40 targets.
The governor of the Rostov region, Vasyl Golubev, and local publics on Telegram reported this.
A series of explosions rang out in the Russian city of Morozovsk, Rostov region, on the night of April 5. Residents reported an attack on the local airfield.
Eyewitnesses reported numerous drones and counted more than 60 explosions.
As reported, some areas of the city have problems with the electricity supply.
Rostov's governor, Golubev, recently implied this fact by stating in his report that "now a mass attack by Ukrainian UAVs is being repelled by air defense forces in the Morozovsk district of the Rostov region." However, there is only information about the airport.
According to Golubev's preliminary data, air defense destroyed over 40 targets in the Morozovsk district.
He said the power substation was damaged, and the power supply is being restored.
Dozens of residential buildings remained without electricity.
"Currently, work is underway to restore the power supply. There has been no information about the victims so far," the Russians assure.
Residents then upload videos online, stating that the initial explosions occurred at the nearby airfield around midnight.
For reference:
Morozovsk is a military airfield in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, located 3 km southwest of the city of Morozovsk. The 559th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 1st Guards Mixed Aviation Division of the Russian Air Force (military unit 75392 of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation) is based at the airfield.
The airfield is home to front-line bombers such as the Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34. It is from these aircraft that the Russians launch anti-aircraft attacks in Ukrainian cities.
Interestingly, Morozovsk serves as a marker of the ethnic border between Russia and Ukraine.
It should be noted that on the night of December 17, 2023, the airfield was attacked by a UAV. At least one plane was damaged.
Then, the Russian invaders announced that on the night of December 17, Russian air defenses allegedly destroyed and intercepted 33 drones.
In addition, on August 21, as a result of a drone attack on the Soltsy airfield in the Novgorod region, Ukraine was able to completely destroy a strategic nuclear bomber of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the first time. As you know, Russia has no engineering and technical base for the new construction of such strategic aircraft.
