Lithuania has decided to allocate €35 million for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine as part of a Czech initiative, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite says.

During a phone conversation with the Czech counterpart Petr Fiala, the official announced that Lithuania would join the initiative, but did not specify the amount of money to be allocated.

"This is a very important initiative, especially at this time when the supply of ammunition to Ukraine has slowed down."

During the Munich Security Conference on February 17, Czech President Petr Pavel said the state had identified 500,000 155 mm and 300,000 122 mm shells that could be delivered within weeks if the money was available.

15 countries outside Europe support the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine and joined the initiative financially.

Pavel said that 800,000 artillery rounds purchased from third countries could be delivered to Ukraine within a few weeks.
