China will consider participating in a peace conference planned by neutral Switzerland in the coming months to end the war in Ukraine.

The Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland, Wang Shiting, stated that his country supports peaceful negotiations, the Neue Zuercher Zeitung reported.

"China advocates for advancing peaceful talks and has always supported this. We have also presented a strategy for the political resolution of the conflict: it is necessary to respect the territorial sovereignty of all countries and adhere to the UN Charter," said the Chinese diplomat,

Mr. Shiting believes that all parties should work toward ending the war.

"We must not allow the crisis to worsen or even spiral out of control. We are closely monitoring the Ukrainian conference to be hosted by Switzerland and are considering the possibility of participation," added the ambassador.

The Chinese diplomat stated that it is necessary "to support Russia and Ukraine in the earliest resumption of direct dialogue to gradually de-escalate the situation."

What we know about the Global Peace Summit

Ukraine has already organized several meetings under the peace formula at the level of advisors to heads of state, which involved dozens of countries. The main goal is to involve as many countries as possible in supporting such an initiative.

In January 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Swiss Confederation President Viola Amherd agreed to begin preparations for the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland at the level of heads of state.

However, the date and location have not yet been determined. The Swiss side has already appointed a person to organize the conference.

Earlier, the head of the Office of the President, Andrii Yermak, admitted Russia's participation in the global peace summit, but not at the first meeting.
